The Lord Has Done Great Things

Harvey Heneveld

READ : Psalm 126:1-6

What a joyful Psalm this is! Years of sorrow gave way to unex pected joy as God’s people traveled home again. Can you see them laughing, embracing and slapping each other on the back, tossing their heads up and singing at the top of their voices? Someone says, “Pinch me. I think I’m dreaming!”

Gone were the dreary days of sorrow. A new day had begun. They were praising God as they celebrated because they knew it was the Lord who had done this for them. “The Lord has done great things for us,” they shouted, “and we are filled with joy.”

There is a major difference between people who love the Lord and those who do not. Although both may go through times of sorrow, those who love the Lord have the assurance that God will have the last word. And that word will be good.

This hope we have is not just wishful dreaming, but solid assur ance. Thank God that the hope we have cannot be lost or diminished by our own foolishness. God’s people then, as now, were often self- centered and foolish. Our hope is based on who God is, not on how good or strong or worthy we are.

This Psalm is so filled with joy because it is about God’s grace. God has done great things for us also. Name a blessing God has given you. Then accept the invitation of this Psalm to thank and praise Him for it.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for _________. All that is good in my life has come from You. I love You, and I rejoice. Amen.
