READ : Zechariah 2:6-13
“I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the Lord. That was a promise God made to His people that has been completely ful filled. In Jesus Christ God Himself came to live among us. The more we ponder that fact, the more amazing it is.
Most people probably anticipated that God would come to live among them in some symbolic way. After all, God’s Presence dwelt in the holy of holies. God’s Spirit was present with His people as they worshiped Him. God’s Law was to be taken into their hearts. God’s angels came to carry out His will. In all these ways God was “living among” His people.
But God did not mean He would come only in symbol and Spirit. When Jesus was born, God Himself actually came to live among us! He took upon Himself a body of flesh and blood just as we have. He walked and talked and ate and slept and laughed and worked and played and went to church and weddings and did every other worthy activity we do. Our lives have been dignified by the tangible presence of God among us!
God came to live with us for a while so that we could go and live with Him forever. Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you…I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:3). That is amazing! Reflect on that today.
Though You gave us life, Jesus, we turned from You. Then You shared our life so You could redeem our life so we could live with You. We thank You and praise You and love You. Amen.
