God is Still in Control

Harvey Heneveld

READ : Micah 5:1-7

Long before Magi came from the East, long before Herod sat on his throne, long before Rome was a world power, long before Caesar issued a decree that a census be taken, God planned that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. He planned that Caesar’s decree would place Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem. He planned that Herod’s attempt to kill the Messiah would lead the holy family to safety in Egypt. He planned that the Magi would give Joseph and Mary gold to support them during their stay in Egypt. Every detail of God’s plan is always fulfilled.

Yet who can trace the pathway of God’s purposes through the details of our daily lives? When we look at the world around us we see people who appear to wield great power. Decisions are made in high places that affect the lives of many. World and business leaders decide on courses of action. We may wonder, sometimes, where is God in all this?

We may not recognize the hand of God at work in events as they happen. But that does not mean that God is not in control. Things are not always what they appear to be. God is the Lord of history. Nothing happens that is not under God’s control.

Though we are not able to trace God’s purposes through the maze of our daily lives, we may rest assured that He is working out His wonderful plans.

Thank You, Lord, that even when life seems confusing, we may know that You are still in control. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
