God Always Provides

READ : Matthew 2:1-13

“Get up and go to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you,” the angel said. Have you ever wondered how Joseph paid for that trip to Egypt? He couldn’t put it on his company expense account. He couldn’t max- out his credit cards. He couldn’t go to an ATM and draw out some cash. Yet he had to finance a trip for three to Egypt. Food cost money then, just as it does now. Lodging as they traveled and housing when they got there cost money then, just as it does now.

Before Joseph knew he was going to need cash, God was preparing Magi far away to give him gifts that would exceed his need. Not only did God arrange for all of Joseph’s expenses to be met, God arranged for Joseph to receive them exactly when he needed them . . . the day before the night he had to leave. “They opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.” Unexpectedly Joseph had resources! They came from a source Joseph could not have anticipated. He never saw or heard of these men before. But God did. Joseph didn’t even know he was going to need these resources. But God did.

Here is an important lesson for all of us: If God tells you to do something, He will also provide the resources necessary. Our part is to stay in God’s will. God’s part is to supply all we need. And He will.

Thank You, Lord, for the assurance that if we stay surren dered to Your will, You will supply our needs. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
