"Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit?"

Richard Huls

READ : Genesis 41:25-45

Being guided by God’s Spirit was Joseph’s special gift. Pharaoh was impressed with his ability to tell the meaning of dreams and to make a plan to survive the coming great famine. It would take a very special person, one who had the Spirit of God in him.

In biblical times those who could accurately foretell dreams and God’s will were regarded as special people, favored by God. How did one get such ability, to see into the mysterious future and know God’s way?

God promised that by the power of his Spirit, the day would come when young men shall see visions and old men shall dream dreams (Acts 2:17b). This would happen when he sent his Spirit upon the church. It happened first at Pentecost, two thousand years ago. The special gift of God’s Spirit is in every Christian. Some seem to experience him more because they obey, are sensitive, and expect his guidance. We Christians need a greater filling of the Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit is always seeking ways to demonstrate his powers. While the Holy Spirit is not controlled by human will and emotion, we are told by Jesus that God will gladly and willingly give his Spirit to those who ask (Luke 11:13). Have you invited him to be the positive controlling force in your life?

Father, fill me with your Holy Spirit. For Jesus’ sake. Amen.
