Grace was on the second lap from 90-100 years. She was able to be in her own home thanks to a lot of help from her daughter and good neighbors. She could barely see and didn’t hear well. But she still had a sharp mind and loved visitors. Late one afternoon her pastor stopped to visit. He was surprised to see that she was watching the television game show “Jeopardy.” He asked why she was watching “Jeopardy.” Grace thought for a moment and then said, “because you can always learn something new.”
In his prayer for the Colossian Christians Paul states the same truth in a different way. “We ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” Paul found that people who know God have a desire to mature, to grow up. In turn they want the ones they love to grow up in God.
Desiring to apply God’s will every day to every area of our lives is the best sign of truly growing up.
Father, May I desire you more today than yesterday, and even more tomorrow. Amen.
