Who Is Jesus? The Crucial Point

John 14:1-6

“Who is Jesus Christ to you?” A college girl down the street might say, “I’m not sure that I like the idea that you say one can only have a relationship with God exclusively through Jesus. It excludes other religions and people. That really bothers me….” Or, if you say something similar to a worker on the assembly line he almost chokes on his sandwich. After a moment he responds, “I have a problem with the interpretation that says, ‘If you do not worship Christ, the person, you’re not getting into heaven.’ I don’t believe that.” Both have trouble with “Who is Jesus?” the most important question. How you answer will determine your salvation. You cannot understand salvation apart from Jesus.

Paul moves from his prayer for the Colossian Christians to a primer on who Jesus is. And he begins with the fact that Jesus is God! As C.S. Lewis said, “You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God.”

If we fail on who Jesus is, we fail on everything else.

PRAYER Father, show me Jesus, so that I may know you. Amen.
