Jesus: Authentic Representation of God

Colossians 2:1-9

He saw the little girl towards the end of the day when the sun had turned the beach into gold. Her small body cast a long shadow as she worked intently in the sand. He watched her for some time before asking, “Little girl, what are you doing there in the sand?” Without stopping for a moment she answered, “I’m drawing.” “Well, what are you drawing?” With her tongue intensely working the corner of her mouth she replied, “I’m drawing a picture of God.” The man chuckled and said, “But don’t you know that nobody knows what God looks like?” She stopped, looked up and said, “They will when I’m finished!”

What does God look like? Paul says that if you want to know what God is like, then look at Jesus. He is the authentic picture of God.

Do you want to know who God loves? Look at Jesus at a party filled with sinners. Do you want to know what God hates? Look at Jesus driving the corrupt buyers and sellers out of the temple. Do you want to know what makes God smile? Look at Jesus inviting the children to come closer. Do you want to know what makes God cry? Look at Jesus weeping over the people.

Father, thank you for loving me enough to show me who you are through Jesus. Amen.
