A Living Faith

READ : Psalm 37:1-15

How is it that people who don’t care about God prosper? As the Psalmist says, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed … when they carry out their wicked schemes.” I heard a missionary say that this psalm was a favorite of Chinese Christians as they endured great persecution.

The Bible does not give us a simple answer to the question. It tells us that when we become spiritually mature we will understand. When we get old, we will look back and see how wonderfully God has taken care of his children (v. 25).

The psalmist also says, “Commit your way to the Lord” (v. 5). The word commit means “roll.” A camel would kneel and the loader would roll the object to be carried onto his back. Turn your burdens over to the Lord and he will take care of you and give inner tranquility.

I don’t know why God allows the evil person to prosper, but I know in the end he will right the situation. No matter what the score may be after the first inning, there is no question who the winners will be at the end of the ninth. They will be those who commit their ways to the Lord.

Father, we know that in the end the wicked will not prosper. Help us to commit all of our ways to you. Amen.
