My God and I

READ : Psalm 57:1-11

David writes at another time of trouble in his life. David is hiding in a cave from Saul.

David speaks about God. He realizes that God has a good plan for his life. He speaks of “God who fulfills his purpose for me.” David knows that God is faithful and loving. Friend, God has a good plan for your life. As you seek to know his will, especially through reading the Bible, you will experience the unfolding of that good plan. How good to have a personal relationship with One who is utterly dependable and really cares about us. David also speaks about himself (my God and I). He knows where to turn in his distress. “I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.” He knows that he also has a responsibility. “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast.” You can depend on God. Can he depend on you?

He commits himself to public song as a way of expressing his steadfastness (vv. 7-10). A personal relationship with God in our hearts is primary, but to honor him we must express our praise publicly. The final result should be that God is honored in the heavens and throughout Planet Earth (v. 11).

Father, work in our hearts by your Spirit that we may discover your plan and honor you each day. Amen.
