Josiah-Trail Blazer

READ : 2 Kings 23:1-3, 24-25

Josiah was a man who reversed the direction of an entire nation, and blazed a good trail to lead them into the future. Josiah was eight years old when he became King of Judah. He reigned for 31 years. The country was in a spiritual mess when Josiah came to the throne. He inherited from his father a land in spiritual decline. People worshiped whichever idols they fancied. The temple was in disarray. God’s Law was nowhere to be found. Josiah’s father and grandfather had both done evil in the eyes of the Lord. Young Josiah reversed that down pattern.

Under Josiah’s reign God’s Law was again given prominence. As the long- unheard words were read, Josiah was reminded of how far the people had drifted from God. A return to the ways of the Lord ensued due largely to a young king’s determination.

We have no control over the way our parents or grandparents responded to God. Yet we do have a say in how we will respond to the Lord. We can clear a trail for those who follow us.

O Holy God, we offer gratitude for those who have blazed a faithful trail for us to follow. Keep our footsteps clear, and our life God-honoring. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
