Looking to Jesus

READ : Hebrews 12:1-3

It is a privilege to lead you in your daily devotional time this month. May God bless these times together. Let’s pray:
Dear Lord, we love you. Thank you for loving us. Please bless our times together as we attempt to focus our attention on you. Amen.

Looking to Jesus. Only three words, but in those three words is the whole secret of life. Looking to Jesus implies a choice of looking away from others and focusing our attention on Jesus, the perfect example of personhood. This does not mean that we separate ourselves from people or ministering to people. Rather, it means that we trust in Jesus as our Savior, our Master, our Guide, and choose not to look primarily to people or things for personal fulfillment.

One hymn writer put it this way:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in his wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of his glory and grace.

I have a friend called John. He used to look to drugs and alcohol for fulfillment. One day through a friend’s witness he made a life-changing choice: Jesus. There were ups and downs. It wasn’t always easy. But he learned Jesus’ way was the best way. He daily struggles “Looking to Jesus.”

Lord Jesus, help us to keep our eyes on you. Amen.
