Who Is This Jesus?

READ : Matthew 1:18-25

The theme and message of Christmas are always relevant. Who is Jesus? Why is he named Jesus?

In a most unusual situation, Joseph was instructed what name to give this miracle baby. In the Jewish culture a name would usually denote a characteristic or something related to the his tory of a person or his time. Paul exclaimed that God gave Jesus “the name that is above every name” (Phil. 2:9). This baby was destined to be the greatest person ever to be born! The angel of the Lord put it very simply to Joseph, “‘She [Mary] will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” There it is! He came to be a Savior. As we are “Looking to Jesus,” remember who he is and why he came.

Linda was a troubled person with many problems: Her husband deserted her. Her children rebelled. She did not enjoy her job. She had no friends, no faith. She resisted any attempts by people to talk to her about Jesus. But one day when she was at her low est, she said “Yes” to Jesus. Then her life was transformed!

What Jesus has done for others, he will do for you. Praise the name!

Dear Lord Jesus. We honor your name! Amen.
