READ : Philippians 3:1-11
“If ever the Divine appeared on earth it was in the person of Christ.” Johann von Goethe wrote those profound words long ago. And to think, Jesus wants to live his life in and through us. What an exciting possibility for all of us believers! This is the best life possible.
The apostle Paul had a burning desire in his heart, even while confined to a jail in Rome with the prospect of death hanging over him. As long as he lived he wanted “to know Christ and the power of his resurrection” (v. 10a). He received Jesus as Savior on the Damascus road. He knew that now two powers were at work in his heart, Satan and the Holy Spirit, who pushed in opposite directions. He also knew he was standing on Victory Ground. Because “Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). He had already made the critical choice at the daily crossroads of life: to obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit and allow the living Lord Jesus Christ to live his life through him. Paul is a testimony and a good example of “Looking to Jesus”!
A modern example was Mother Teresa of Calcutta. She let Jesus freely live in her and through her. And it showed in the loving way she reached out to others. “Go and do likewise.”
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the Resurrection power to live and even suffer like you. Amen.
