The Best is Yet to Come!

READ : John 14:1-7

During World War II my brother Jim was gone for a long time serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He with others had one job to do: fight to win the war. When V-J (Victory over Japan) Day was announced, he came home! It seemed like the best day ever.

But, our reading describes the very best day. Jesus said:

“I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come back again and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Jesus is coming again!

The great creeds of the church declare Jesus is coming back. The Nicene Creed states, “He shall come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead.” Billy Graham tells the story of the day Queen Elizabeth was crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury. He laid the crown on her head, pronouncing, “I give thee, O sovereign Lady, this crown to wear until he who reserves the right to wear it shall return.” Jesus’ return: the best day ever.

Read First Thessalonians 4:13-18 which outlines that day.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you will surely come again! While we wait for your return, make us a blessing to others. Amen.
