An Amazing Claim

God. His followers called him Father Divine, which means Father God! Today there is a cemetery marker which identifies his grave. He died. His claim was false.

In contrast to this, listen to the words of Jesus whose claims are true. “Before Abraham was born, I am” (v. 58). This reminds us of the day God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses asked what he should say when he told the people God had sent him and they asked, “What is his name?” God’s answer: “I Am Who I Am . . . I AM has sent me to you” (Exodus 3:13-14). This title reveals the never-ending existence of God. He always was, he is, and he always will be. God is complete in himself. He is the source of all being. He is eternal and almighty. Jesus claimed to be God incarnate. “I AM.” Later when on trial before the Jewish Sanhedrin, Jesus was asked about his identity, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” Jesus replied, “I am.”

How do we respond to Jesus’ claim to being God? Remember Thomas first he doubted, then he exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!”

Lord Jesus. I know you are the God-Man, showing God to us. I bow in reverence to you. Amen.
