I Am the Way

READ : John 14:1-7

As I write this Arlene and I are in Quito, Ecuador, South America, a beautiful place, nestled in the Andes mountains. Population: 1,850,000. A different culture. Many beautiful people, but people who are in the bondage of religion. One-half block from our small apartment is the HCJB compound, a powerful international radio ministry broadcasting the liberating Good News of Jesus Christ, Heralding Christ Jesus Blessings (HCJB). The WAY is being shared with any who will listen.

Jesus had just shared some astonishing things with his disciples in his last words in the Upper Room. Thomas didn’t quite understand, so he asked, “How can we know the way?” Many others have asked the same question. Other religions and cults claim they are the way. Science and technology seem to be the panacea for the world’s ills. People have succumbed to the spurious claims of drugs, sex, materialism, ambition. In our pluralistic society, we may wonder, is there only one way? Jesus did not hand out an impossible creed or an endless list of do’s and don’ts. He simply said, “I am the Way.” Not one of many, only one. All others are dead ends. Believe in him, follow him. Help others find the Way.

Lord Jesus, you who are the Way, lead us through our journey of life. Amen.
