God's Open Door

READ : Revelation 3:7-13

Two years ago I was asked to lead a series of tours to Turkey and Greece. I agreed to try one. While in Turkey on a preliminary visit, I developed a deep prayer concern for that country.

Turkey is the largest unevangelized nation in the world. Its population is 98% Muslim. It is home to very few Christians. But unlike other Muslim lands, Turkey has a secular government, is open to the West and is friendly toward the U.S. and Israel.

I came to know our Turkish guide as a dear friend. I found him marvelously responsive to the things of Christ. He seemed to me a sign, a first fruit of what modern Turkey could become.

One day looking out over the beautiful Lycus river valley, I asked the Lord, “What are you saying to me in these days here in Turkey?” This Scripture verse came to my mind: “Look, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut.”

That word was given once to the first-century church in Philadelphia, assuring them of a great opportunity to spread the gospel. It seemed like that to me, also. Maybe God could use these tours to open doors for Christ in Turkey.

Lord, open the way! May multitudes in Turkey learn of Christ and trust in him. In his name. Amen.
