It Causes Me to Tremble,Tremble, Tremble

Joseph Holbrook, Jr.

READ : Daniel 10:1-10

Both Daniel (vv. 5-6) and John (Rev. 1:12-17) had an encounter with the same person. Each saw: “a man” “a son of man”; “clothed in linen” “a long robe”; “girded with gold of Uphaz” “a golden girdle around his waist”; “eyes like flaming torches” “his eyes like a flame of fire”; “the sound of his words like the noise of a multitude” “his voice was like the sound of many waters.” In the book of Revelation the man reveals who he is: “the first and the last, the living one. I died and behold I am alive forevermore.” He is the glorified Jesus Christ. And there is no reason to identify the figure in Daniel differently.

The reactions of both Daniel and John is the same. Daniel says, “No strength was left in me I fell on my face in a deep sleep.” John says, “I fell at his feet as though dead.”

The final word is the same to both men, and to us. The awesome figure reaches down and touches both of them and says the assuring words, “Fear not.” Do you tremble, tremble, tremble at the thought of standing before the throne of God? Remember, it is those who tremble who receive the healing touch.

Lord, don’t ever let me forget how great you are. Be merciful to me, a sinner. In your name, I pray. Amen.
