A Glimpse of the Unseen

READ : Daniel 10:11-21
Daniel 11:1

We have just read some of the most astonishing words in the Bible. The person speaking to Daniel, before whom he falls in trembling and fear, says that while on his way to respond to Daniel’s fasting and prayers “the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me 21 days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me” (v. 13). What is going on up there!!

We know about angels singing to shepherds, Gabriel bringing good news to Mary, and angels opening prison doors for the apostles in Acts 5. But demons and angels opposing each other in an arena unseen by us catches us by surprise. Perhaps there is an echo of this in the apostle Paul’s words in Ephesians 6, “We wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.”

Even more pertinent are the words of Paul in Ephesians 3:10, “Through the church the manifold wisdom of God might be made known to the principalities in the heavenly places.”

Daniel has pulled back the curtain just a little for us. What we have seen is kind of scary.

Lord, open our eyes to the demonic struggles in our time. Thank you for the below-surface ones who guard us. Amen.
