A Time for Everything

Wow, is it time for Christmas again?

How can it be December already? We’ve just barely recovered from celebrating Thanksgiving and now it’s time to gear up for the Christmas holidays clean the house, trim the tree, shop for gifts, write Christmas cards/letters, practice with the choir and/or the children’s program, decorate the church. Busy, busy, busy! Will we collapse in a heap on December 26? Or will we be inspired, exhilarated, joyful and ready to face a promising new year?

Too often when our schedules heat up, our devotions cool down! No time for prayer, no time for meditative reading of scripture, no time to care about the sick, visit a prisoner, feed hungry people, or clothe the poor.

We are right to honor our Lord’s birth, but when did Jesus ask us for a rushed, expensive, nerve-wracking extravaganza? His advice? “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28, nkjv).

May we all be spiritually restored by Christmas!

PRAYER

Father, through your Holy Spirit keep us sweet-spirited throughout this busy month. Help us to reserve time for you. Amen.
