Born to Be Somebody

Like Elizabeth’s friends, every mother thinks while pregnant, “I wonder what this child will be like?” How will it be like us or like its siblings? Amazingly, no two are ever completely alike unless they are identical twins. Does God “program” us for something when we are conceived as he did John? The Bible says he does!

At one time I was a high school guidance counselor. When students had no clue as to what they should do with their life, I would ask them and their parents, “What did Susie most like to do between the ages of 2 and 5?” Often the answer to this question gave insight into what God had designed the child to be and do.

If you have small children watch them carefully for clues to their possible future and God’s plan for their lives. Every life is planned by God. We may not be destined for an important role as John the Baptist, but we are each a unique part of God’s plan for his world. Discovering his gifts is like a profitable treasure hunt. What are your gifts? Use them both to worship God and help other people as we celebrate Christ’s birth together!

Lord, give us insight into how we all fit into your plans. Amen.
