The Holy Christmas Spirit

READ : Luke 1:26-38
Luke 18:16-17

If Gabriel suddenly appeared before us announcing God’s omnipotence as he did to Mary, all of us too might believe God could do anything. Or would we? In spite of all the witnesses recorded in the New Testament, many of us doubt especially the more sophisticated and educated among us. After all, we aren’t foolish enough to accept a story just because it is written in the Bible, are we? Why, one would have to be simple-minded to believe such wild tales. Only children could be so easily persuaded. Exactly! “… anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it” (Luke 18:17, niv).

Why are there are so many skeptics in today’s world? Because of our modern technological advances and our extended education? Or is it because, unlike Mary, the Holy Spirit has never “come upon us”? Jesus tells us “… how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13, niv). Have you asked? Has the Holy Spirit ever come upon you with power? Until he does we all remain merely cultural Christians, rather than power houses of God’s Spirit.

Dear Lord, please strengthen our spirits by a fresh infusion of your Holy Spirit, so we not only believe about you, but believe you sincerely. Amen.
