A Year of Spiritual Renewal

Galatians 1:1-2

Happy New Year! It is my prayer that 1999 will be a year in which you will grow in your knowledge and understanding of the Word of God. To help you get off to a good start, I have chosen to lead you into a study of Galatians. This is a letter to young Christians in the churches in Galatia (see Acts 13- 14). The letter was written because false teachers, called Judaizers, taught that to be a Christian re quired not only believing in Jesus Christ, but also observing required Jewish religious laws. These teachers did not substitute something in place of Christ but taught that his death on the cross was not sufficient for salvation by itself.

I believe this letter has a vital message for us today. Many religious leaders including some Christians are teaching that all religions are more or less the same. Paul preached that Christ alone was the source of our salvation.
>This letter was the source of Martin Luther’s spiritual awakening. I pray that this study may bring great spiritual renewal to you as well.

Heavenly Father, “open my eyes that I may see glimpses of truth you have for me. Place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.” In Jesus’ name. Amen.
