READ : Galatians 5:1-6
Freedom-men and women have died for it. Paul tells us everyone can have it through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. What is this freedom? Many think it means the absence of all limitations and restraints. Teenagers are anxious to leave home so they can be free from rules and regulations and do what they want, go where they want whenever they want.
But this is not the freedom that Paul promises to those who believe “his gospel.” No one is free until she accepts the truth that she is victimized by sin and selfish pursuits. To be free is to break our addiction to sin. John Stott has written in his book The Contemporary Christian, “True freedom is freedom from my silly little self, in order to live responsibly in love for God and others.”
TO BE FREE IS:
To follow Christ, and not to be a slave to sin.
To live by the Spirit, not by religious traditions.
To live moral and not unprincipled lives.
To speak good and not evil.
To build up and not tear down.
To heal and not to hurt.
To love and not to hate.
Father in heaven, make me truly free so that I can be all that you want me to be, all that I want to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
