READ : Galatians 6:1-6
In our lesson today Paul gives us four very surprising illustrations of what it means to live by the Holy Spirit. We will consider two today and two tomorrow. The first has to do with confronting a believer who has fallen into sin (verse 1).
In my many years of ministry the most difficult task was confronting a fellow believer about a proud and condemning spirit. It was never easy. But, after much thought and prayer, I felt the Holy Spirit instructing me to do it, both for the offender’s good and the health of the church. Do you know of someone caught in a sin who needs a gentle word from you?
Living by the Spirit means, secondly, that we carry another’s burdens (verse 2). As believers living under the Spirit, we need to show love, sympathy and kindness to those going through times of hardship and difficulty. I remember the time when a member of the church I pastored put a widow of three young children on his payroll. Then he told her that she need not report for work but was to stay home and care for her children. Only a person living by the Spirit would show such compassion and love.
Friend, are you living in the Spirit?
Loving Lord, help me to surrender more and more to the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
