Body Building

READ : Ephesians 4:7-13

“Americans Growing Wider,” said the article. All over, cities and businesses are installing new, wider seats. One ferry is using more benches to accommodate our bigger, out-of-shape bodies. Let’s face it, most of us could benefit by replacing some flab with muscle.

Christ’s body, the church, also needs “body” building. And here Paul tells us Christ’s program. “Grace-gifts” have been given to each Christian by our victorious Lord to build up his body in every way so it can reach unity and maturity. Be clear on three points:

  1. Christ has equipped you with special abilities to do the work to which he calls you. These are called spiritual gifts. “Each one” (v. 7) has received; that includes you! Do you know and use your ministry gifts?

  2. Christ has designed the work of the church to be done by all God’s people (v. 12). Gifted leaders (v. 11) are to prepare us for that service. Do you go to church, in part, to get training to better use your gifts?

  3. All the gifts are meant to build up the body of Christ. They are service gifts to be used to help others. They are not gifts to keep but to give away. What is your part in growing and building up Christ’s body?

Thank you, Lord, that with your calling you also provide the resources I need to accomplish your will. Amen.
