You Are Dearly Loved

Tom McCrossan

READ : Ephesians 5:1-2

I developed a healthy self-esteem despite alcoholism and divorce in my family because each parent let me know they loved me deeply. I know how fortunate I am for I have worked with people whose families put them down, making them feel unworthy of being loved. We need love. Love motivates us.

Let Paul’s words wash over you like glorious sun light: “Be imitators of God . . .

as dearly loved children.”

God created you to love you and be loved in return. At the Father’s direction, Jesus gave up all his divine rights and became a human being to be our once-and-for-all sin offering. “The punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). He suffered willingly because he loves us.

You wouldn’t be so critical of yourself and so conscious of the opinions of others if you really knew how God feels about you! God decided before the world’s creation that you would be adopted as his beloved child through Jesus Christ, the true Son (Eph. 1:3-6). He will never leave or abandon you (Heb. 13:4). Nothing can separate you from his love (Rom. 8:39). Paul’s great prayer in Eph. 3:16-21 is that you come to know Christ’s love. Pray this prayer for yourself until you experience it.

I am your beloved child; I praise you for loving me. Help me see myself through your eyes, O Lord. Amen.
