Spiritual Warfare-A Delusion?

Tom McCrossan

READ : Ephesians 6:10-12

When I tell people that one of the most valuable courses I took at seminary was cultural anthropology they give me a strange look. But it’s true!

In that course I learned about “world view” the unquestioned assumptions we make about the nature of our world. One of the assumptions of the 20th Century American world view is that science is vastly more important to everyday life than the supernatural. Most Americans take this idea for granted, including all too many attendees at church.

Let Scripture challenge world view assumptions. Verses 11-12 say that not only is the devil real, but our greatest struggle is against “the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Behind any human opponent stands the real demonic enemy. We must neither lash out against human opponents nor think that merely human resources can win the battle.

If this thought seems strange to you, you have a world view conflict. Until that struggle is re solved, what the Bible says about spiritual warfare will seem remote. When you believe in miracles, rec ognize that the Holy Spirit gives you supernatural ministry gifts. Be sure your prayers really make a difference so that you are gaining a biblical world view.

May I face every life issue with the mind of Christ. Amen.
