Fully Protected and Equipped

READ : Ephesians 6:13-18

It has become my practice to put on the armor of God each day as I wake up, sometimes in bed, sometimes in the shower. It’s a good thing it is not real armor! What I’m doing is reaffirming my relationship with Christ.

The belt of truth

holds everything together. We are subject to falsehood in various teachings and deceitful schemes (Eph. 4:14), not to mention our own deceitful desires (4:22). God’s word is foundational.

The breastplate of righteousness

guards the heart and vital organs. Right relationship with Christ is not by our works but by faith (2:8-10).

The readiness that comes from the gospel of peace

is like Roman soldiers’ footwear that had cleats to help them dig in and stand firm or grip the ground when they were ready to march forward. It is good news that we have peace with God.

The shield of faith

can extinguish the flaming arrows of the Evil One that accuse, slander and tempt. Faith that focuses on Christ and his promises will protect us from serious wounds.

The helmet of salvation

covers our thought life. Nothing can take us out of the fight quicker than beginning to doubt God’s love or even our salvation. And

the sword of the Spirit

is our primary weapon in spiritual battle.

Don’t leave home without getting fully dressed!

Lord, with your strength I can do all things. Amen.
