Prayer in the Spirit

Tom McCrossan

READ : Ephesians 6:18

“Pray in the Spirit“as he leads you through his power. The Holy Spirit is Christ’s power dwelling in us. Here are 11 of Paul’s 73 references to “the Spirit”:

  • “The kingdom of God is . . . righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17).

  • “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Cor. 3:17).

  • “The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. [We have] received . . . the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us” (1 Cor. 2:10, 12).

  • “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express” (Romans 8:26).

  • “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. . . . Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit” (Gal. 5:22-23, 25).

  • “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better” (Eph. 1:17).

God, we are connected by your Spirit; thank you. Amen.
