READ : 1 Corinthians 15:17-26
I used to wonder why Easter was such a big holiday since Good Friday was the day the Lord achieved our salvation. The resurrection seemed anticlimactic compared to the cross. I have since come to appreciate the central place the Bible gives to the resurrection.
It is the visible sign that, out of all the would- be messiahs in this world, Jesus is the authentic one endorsed by God (Acts 17:31). The resurrection is a great dividing line. We must decide whether we believe in God’s only Messiah or reject him.
The resurrection gives us an encouraging preview of our own future. Like Jesus, we will be raised to new life. Life after death is not an abstract concept. Jesus has shown with his risen flesh and blood that eternal life is real. This eternal life is found only in him.
Paul wrote, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile .” But what if Christ really
raised from the dead two thousand years ago? What might that mean for you and me? The resurrection of Christ, far from being a minor doctrine, was the event which radically changed the apostles’ understanding of death, life and the future. Has it done the same for you?
Father, help me to comprehend the resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ and its meaning for now and all eternity. Amen.
