God's Protecting Presence

READ : Daniel 3:24-30

British runner Derek Redmond was on the backstretch in the 400-meter semifinals during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics when he collapsed with a torn hamstring. Struggling to his feet, his face contorted with pain, he attempted to continue. Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, an older man broke through security and rushed to his side. The amazed crowd cheered – then cried – as Derek, aided by his father, finished the race.

Nebuchadnezzar was similarly astonished as he stared into the fiery furnace, hoping to get a glimpse of a burning Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Instead, what he saw was four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, with the fourth coming out of nowhere and looking like “a son of the gods.”

Scripture doesn’t reveal who this fourth person was. We can be certain it was a supernatural presence sent by the Most High God to protect His faithful servants.

Do you face times of trial and pain as you run life’s race? Are you feeling scorched by the flames of your own fiery furnace? Know that your heavenly Father will never leave nor forsake you. In fact, in times of trial and pain, he will rush to your aid, walk at your side, and hold you up as you finish the race marked out for you.

Lord, I thank you for walking with me in my trials. Help me remember that you are always with me. Amen.
