READ : Daniel 6:18-20
One of the issues we address each year with our high school students revolves around image. We ask the kids if they act the same during the week at school as they do on Sundays at church. Do the friends that they hang out with know that they are Christians by what they say and do, or is their Christianity simply a phony mask that they wear one day a week?
As a teen I had two groups of friends – one at school and one at church. I was always afraid what might happen if the two groups of friends – one at school and one at church. I was always afraid what might happen if the two groups ever met and compared notes because how I acted during that period of my life depended on who was watching me.
Daniel, on the other hand, made it very plain to the pagan kings that God was at the center of his life. King Darius doesn’t say to Daniel, “Hey, Daniel, did that God you mentioned to me that one time save you?” or “Hey, Daniel, did that God somebody told me you worship once a week save you?” King Darius knew that Daniel served God
because it was obvious that Daniel served God
. In fact, not only the king knew this, but everyone who knew Daniel recognized this. Can you say the same for all who know you?
Dear Lord, teach us not to hide our love and devotion for you from the world around us. Amen.
