Payback Belongs to God Alone

READ : Daniel 6:24
Deuteronomy 32:35

In the classic “Roadrunner” cartoons, Wile E. Coyote is forever devising schemes to trap the speedy Roadrunner. They always backfire. In the end, as the Roadrunner squawks “beep beep” and speeds off into the distance, Coyote finds himself either flattened by a train, smashed into a cliff wall, or squashed by a falling anvil.

Obviously, King Darius’s satraps never saw this cartoon. Jealous of Daniel’s success and perhaps unnerved by his integrity, they planned his demise with an elaborate scheme. But when God once again saves Daniel, the king orders the schemers and their families thrown into the lion’s den. They’re devoured in their own trap before reaching the den’s floor.

Throughout the Scriptures, Daniel never seems the least bit concerned with those that plot against him, yet in due time, all are destroyed.

Do your enemies plot against you? Do you find yourself consumed with thoughts of revenge? Don’t spend a moment concerned with paybacks. God acts decisively at the right moment. “It is mine to avenge,” said the Lord. He and he alone administers justice fairly.

Lord, help me not to seek revenge, but to have faith that you will bring about justice on schedule. Amen.
