In an Unjust World

READ : Psalm 64:1-10

David had many enemies who were waiting for opportunities to hurt him. In the world today Christians are being persecuted in many ways. Far more have died for their faith in this generation than during the 300 years when Rome threw Christians to the lions and burned them at the stake.

If you are living in such a situation, I remind you that the God who protected Abraham, Joseph, David, Daniel and many others is our God. He is the living God, active as Lord of history. He allows evil men to go so far and no further.

If you are living in comfort and affluence, pray frequently for your brothers and sisters who are suffering for their faith in Christ. Do not forget them. God will hear your prayers on their behalf. May God broaden our horizons so that we will see beyond our comfortable isolated world.

God rules. Regarding the wicked, “He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin” (v. 8a). The final chapter of history will be the coming of Christ. Then every knee will bow and every tongue confess that he is Lord. There will be a new heaven and a new earth “wherein dwelleth righteousness.”

Father, be present with persecuted believers. Send your Son soon to end the night of wrong. In his name. Amen.
