Do you know what “W.W.J.D.” means? W.W.J.D. stands for “What Would Jesus Do?,” a question intended to help us respond as Christians in everyday decisions and circumstances. Items that bear these letters have become quite popular. There are some spin-offs appearing in stores, including D.O.G. tags (Depend On God) and items emblazoned with F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely On God).

My son Andrew has invented several other meanings for W.W.J.D., including “Why Would Jews Deny?” “When Will Jesus Descend?” and a provocative favorite, “Why Would Jesus Die?” The answer to this last question is both perplexing and satisfying. It lends great insight into God’s nature, and challenges us to respond. Jesus came as a servant-humiliated, shamed and crucified-


he was God, not in spite of that fact.


he was God, his nature was to serve.


he was God, his nature was to be humble, obedient and loving.

How should we respond to his selfless and loving acts? Paul provides the answer. “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” We are to be humble, obedient, selfless and loving. That’s what Jesus would do. That’s what Jesus
