The Psalmist sings a beautiful song of praise. Over and over he reminds us that “God’s love never fails.” Jesus tells us the same thing when he says, “My Father, who has given them [“the sheep,” referring to those of us who believe] to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:29).
There have been times in my life when I have felt that God either wasn’t listening to my prayers or wasn’t able to do what I asked. How foolish of me! In looking back at those times, I realize that God answered my prayers in his own time and in his own way.
When going to college, I saw my first love leave me for another girl. How fervently I prayed that God would change my love’s heart, so that he would see how much better I was for him. God did not answer my prayer and the boy married my rival. But now I see that God’s love did not fail. God had a better plan to find the perfect man for me. My darling husband and I recently celebrated our 52nd wedding anniversary. I thank God for not answering “yes” to what I thought was best for me. The Psalmist was right. God’s love never fails!
Heavenly Father, thank you for your perfect love. May we always trust you, even when we don’t understand, for your love never fails us. Amen.
