READ : Psalm 27:3-6
1 Peter 5:6-7
If you talk with anyone who has had a close brush with death, you will find someone who is glad to be alive. I can affirm that, for I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was a young wife and mother of two small children. Excellent medical care and God’s grace saved my life. There has never been a morning since that experience that I haven’t awakened and thanked God for the opportunity to live another day.
Yet some Christians are missing out on the glory of life with Christ by wasting time fretting and worrying. Others get upset over something and spend their days nursing a grudge. The Bible clearly warns us against this: “Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold” (Eph. 4:26, niv).
John Lennon, of the Beatles, once said, “Life is what happens when we are busy making plans.” We can’t anticipate the surprises each day can bring, some beautiful and some not so welcome. But when we face each day with enthusiasm, trusting God to be with us every step of the way, we can find answers to our challenges and real joy in living.
Lord Jesus, may we have the faith and courage to greet each new day with thanks and praise to God the Father. Help us to realize that it’s great to be alive. Amen.
