READ : John 14:1-7
The mission chapel was packed with Koreans and Americans standing side by side for the funeral of our hospital director’s six-year-old son. Little Philip had drowned in a strong tide in the Yellow Sea. It was hard to hold back our tears as we tried to sing a special song for the service. And it was hard when we all gathered at the hilltop graveyard. But Philip’s father was calm as he committed Philip into God’s care. He made this touching remark. “If we send a loved one far away we are very concerned unless we can trust the one to whom we are sending him. We are sending Philip to be with Jesus, and we can rest assured that Jesus will lovingly care for him.”
Most of us have lost loved ones, especially as we have grown older. What peace we have when we know that our loved one is in the presence of the Lord.
Let’s pray that each of our family members will have a personal relationship with the Lord and that we will eventually all be together in his presence.
Thank you, Lord, that you have conquered death and have prepared a place for us in heaven. May all our loved ones share that assurance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
