READ : Proverbs 2:1-11
“I don’t know why I had to come to Korea,” Sandra complained. She was from Indonesia and was headed for the U.S. to study orthodontics on a mission scholarship. But she had been told first to improve her English and dental skills in our hospital in Korea. She was very sharp, learned quickly and was a big help to us.
Even though Sandra was Indonesian she had experienced discrimination in her own country because of her Chinese origin. After several months of working and worshiping with us she surprised us by asking if she could be baptized. I had assumed that she had already been baptized. When I suggested that it might be more meaningful if she were baptized in her home church in Jarkarta, she replied,“No, my heart is ready now.” So our chaplain learned the words in Indonesian and baptized her in our mission chapel.
Sometimes God speaks to us and our hearts feel ready to do something for him, but we put it off. When we hear God speak, we should be like Sandra and “just do it!” He will give us strength. The blessings we receive will be surprising.
Lord, please bless Sandra and other Christians in Indonesia as they are persecuted for their faith. Help us to do today what you put in our hearts to do.
