Where is God?

Dick Nieusma, Jr.

READ : Ephesians 2:12-14

North Korea: huge billboards praising Communism and the “Dear Leader,” faceless masses walking to work and school, gaudy government buildings, drab gray concrete apartments. . . . It brought a chill to see the stark contrast with South Korea and the rest of the world.

But we were there to help. We had to check on the supplies and equipment in the dental bus we had sent. We wanted to visit TB hospitals and rest homes. And we needed to make sure that the large shipment of medicines, food and plastic greenhouses had arrived safely. During a lull I began talking with some of the men standing around. When I said, “God has blessed us with beautiful weather today,” one of them replied, “Where is God?” Another added, “General Kim is our God!”

From childhood they have been drilled in atheism. What chance do they have to know a loving God? Where can they find peace, joy and hope? Please pray that as the North continues to become more open to outside influences, Christians will have the freedom to share the gospel there and that they will come to know “where God is.”

Be with the people in North Korea. Help them in their physical needs and help them to know you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
