Don't Mess Around

Ezekiel 33:10-11

My parents reared me on the principle-shut yourself off from evil. When I was young, they were so serious about it that they scared me. They did not go to the movies. (Many Christians didn’t 60 years ago.) After selling our produce in the farmer’s market, I remember driving by the theater on the main street in our city. My mother would point out the ticket booth at the theater and warn me solemnly, “Don’t ever go there!” She may have been too conservative, but her warning was not totally unfounded. Little did she know what the movie, TV and video industry would market to our culture in the year 2001! My parents did not want me to mess around with evil. Evil destroys. Holiness heals and saves. No one can fault my parents’ motivation and goal.

What do you fill your heart and mind with through your eyes, your ears, your driving passions? Are you taking a risk, toying with temptation, defeating your intention to be holy? Wake up, America! Wake up, world! Abstain! Hold back! Walk away! Separate yourself from evil. Better to be conservative than consumed.

Lord of Life, help me to listen when you say “halt” even while others plunge ahead. It is your honor and my wholeness that take precedence.
