A Passion for Holiness in 2002

READ : 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28

What would the coming year be like if all Christians committed themselves to a renewed passion for holiness? The change would be astounding! What if the United Nations were to declare “A Year Of Holiness to God For All Peoples”? Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, traditional religionists and Christians would be challenged to examine their highest ethical standards. All faiths would be urged to renewal.

My impression is that sincere religious people agonize over their behavior. All religions have laudable ideals. But who would ever claim to be thoroughly holy and blameless by whatever standards? Have you ever noticed how sad and hopeless the faces of many religious folk are? I feel they sense their failure.

We need hope. We need a consuming passion that drives us. We need a model and leader. For Christians our leader is Jesus Christ our Lord. Can you trust him to do a more thorough cleansing work in your life next year, even tomorrow? I urge you to write down today exactly what you want to accomplish for him. Then prayerfully commit yourself to his constant involvement in your life.

Holy God, Majestic and Clothed in Splendid Purity, I thank you for your holiness. I invite you to sanctify me.
