God For, With and In Us

READ : John 14:8-17

In Jesus the height, the depth, and the breadth of the Father’s nature is brought close to us, down to our level. Jesus said, “He who has seen me has seen the Father” (v. 9). But the Spirit brings God’s presence closer still. The Spirit lives in each and every Christian. “He dwells with you, and will be in you” (v. 17, rsv).

It sounds incredible. Jesus is telling his disciples that the same Holy Spirit through whose power he cast out demons and performed all his mighty works will live from now on inside each believer. And “they will do the works that I do, and greater works than I do.”

As the first followers of Jesus spread out into the world they did so with a power that was beyond their ability to grasp. In the last 2000 years, whenever believers have not quenched the Holy Spirit, he has used them to bring freedom, joy, healing and love to a world caught in bondage to the Evil One.

Jesus, we are awed to think that the same Spirit who descended on you has entered our lives too. We want his power to flow through us into the lives of all whose lives touch ours. In your name. Amen.
