Isn’t there some quick, easy way to get the Holy Spirit to flow into my life and into the life of my church? Here are two surefire ways. In Acts 4 the prayer of the assembled Christians is one of praise: “Sovereign Lord, who didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them. . . .” and prayer for power in ministry: “Grant to thy servants to speak thy word with all boldness . . . And the place . . . was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Is there a gathering for prayer before your worship service? What do you pray for? Is there a weekday evening prayer meeting?

Our text in Acts 4 makes clear how God fulfilled what Jesus said in Luke 11:13, God will “give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” When we unite in thankful praise and request boldness to share Christ with our neighbors and with the world, the Father shakes us and our church as he fills us with his Holy Spirit.

We’ve sung it many times. Try praying it.
