How do I know that I am freed, liberated, delivered from Satan’s power and bound for heaven? Do I need an ecstatic vision or last rites before I die? The Apostle Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit, residing in our own spirit, gives us assurance that we who have put our faith in Jesus are, and ever will be, children of God.

The Spirit causes us to “fall in love” with Jesus. When someone challenges you, “How do you know you’re in love?” you reply, “I know it. It’s not that I think it, hope it, feel it-I know it.” “No one knows the thoughts of God, but the Spirit of God . . . we have received the Spirit.”

The other part of the internal testimony of the Spirit relates to the Bible. To many the Bible is just another ancient book filled with good stories and ethical advice. But when the Holy Spirit opens our inner eyes to the message of the Bible we see it as truth. Then joyfully and humbly we offer our lives to Jesus.

Thank you, Lord, for your Spirit, who causes us to fall in love with your Son and your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
