READ : 2 Corinthians 13:5-14
We don’t have much trouble relating grace to our Lord Jesus Christ. Or love to God our Father. But what does fellowship, koinonia, have to do with the Holy Spirit?
Imagine for a moment that you and your family, for whatever reason, are thinking of leaving your congregation. Suddenly you think, “What about that brother or sister who prayed with us when we were in crisis? That friend who came up with money when our business faced a sudden turn around? Those people who donated blood when our child had an accident?”
Every time we partake of the Lord’s Supper we are reminded that many grains have been united into one bread, many grapes into one juice, but also many people into one body. The “fellowship of the Holy Spirit” that has bound me to Words of Hope readers for more than 40 years has been a precious experience. And the future is even brighter-we will fellowship in heaven forever!
Father, thank you for the bonds of fellowship created by the Holy Spirit, by which people separated by miles can sense their unity in Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
