READ : Jonah 1:1-3
As a civil engineering student approaching graduation, I had my next steps planned. Now, by a mysterious voice heard in the night, I am told God is going to direct my life!
“He is going to put you in a land that is not your own land, among people of a different color, race, culture and creed. He will put you to work among boys and he will bring it to pass.”
My mind races. I believe in God so it makes sense that he has a purpose for my life. But I have my own life to be getting on with, with little room for his competition or instructions!
I bargain with the voice.
“Give me three years first and God can have the rest of my life.”
Because I put my priorities first, I lose three precious years of God ordering my life. I miss out on the “glorious liberty of the children of God” that God had planned for me during those years. I can never regain them.
When God reveals his purpose to you, seize the day. Our own selfish desires can’t compare to what God has planned for us.
Lord, keep us sensitive and obedient to your leading.
