Don't Be Afraid to Ask

Luke 18:1-8

The orphanage in Karachi is teaching me what faith is about. For sixty years childrens’ faces and voices have turned to God, and provisions have outstripped petitions.

There is a Chinese proverb, “When the pupil is ready, the teacher arrives.” I am drinking in the lessons I’m learning. I am beginning to “walk in the light as he is in the light.”

I am more relaxed about finances. Without money, without major donors, without bank balances, savings or reserve funds. We have no credit status. No one would lend us money if we sought a loan. But we are coping. Little is left over but bills are paid each month.

We each naturally tend to focus on our financial security. God, who counts our worth more than many sparrows, has a different pattern for us. He will be our provider. All he asks from us is that we seek his will and place ourselves in the center of it. All too often we do not receive simply because we are standing in the wrong place or because we don’t ask. The wastebin of heaven is full of answers to unasked prayers.

Thank you Lord that we can ask and keep on asking. Your tender mercies never cease.
